Fife Housing Association Alliance has now completed 24 much-needed new homes at Windygates for Glen Housing Association
The £2.9million project was developed by Kingdom Housing Association, the lead developer partner for affordable housing in Fife.
The project, at Johnston Terrace in Windygates, provides a mix of private access flats, terraced and semi-detached houses, to meet a full range of housing needs.
The 24 homes for rent have now transferred to the ownership of Glen HA, which is part of the Alliance that also includes Kingdom, Ore Valley and Fife Housing Associations.
The homes have additional sustainability features to improve their thermal insulation, including smart meters which allow tenants to effectively track their energy use and show where economies can be made.
Properties also have increased insulation in their foundations, walls and roofs, while the high efficiency boiler systems have ‘weather compensators’ built in to increase their efficiency. Three units also have solar panels.
Dunfermline-based Campion Homes built the development, which comprises 8 x 2 bedroom ‘amenity’ cottage flats, 1 x wheelchair cottage, 3 x 3 bedroom terraced houses, 4 x 3 bedroom semi-detached houses and 8 x 2 bedroom semi-detached houses.
The £2.9m development was built on land acquired from Fife Council as part of the partnership approach to the delivery of affordable housing in Fife.
It took 12 months to complete and was funded by more than £2m in Housing Association Grant (HAG), provided from the Scottish Government and almost £900,000 in private funding, which is raised by Glen Housing Association
Alan McGuckin, Chief Executive at Kingdom, said: “We’re delighted to hand over this development to Glen, which marks a further step towards the completion of the 1000th house which will be delivered by the FHAA.
“The project not only provides much needed accommodation, but we should also bear in mind the important role we are playing in supporting the construction industry and the Fife economy in the present difficult economic circumstance.”
Anne Dickie, Director at Glen, added: “We are absolutely delighted with the quality of build and landscaping by the contractor on this scheme and this is echoed by the new tenants who have started moving in already.
“Our only regret is that due to the cuts in funding there may not be many more schemes like this handed over, especially when we could have let these properties many times over.”
Alan Russell, Senior Manager (Housing Estate Services) at Fife Council said they were “very pleased” to be involved in another successful affordable housing development in Fife using council land.
He said: “These new homes will make a valuable contribution to the provision of affordable housing in Fife and in particular the Levenmouth area.
“This is further evidence of our excellent partnership working arrangements in Fife with both the Scottish Government and the Fife-based Housing Associations.”
